About Real Change ABA

Real Change ABA is a specialized ABA practice based in Lakewood, NJ. We believe every child with autism deserves to be genuinely understood, not just managed. That belief shapes everything about how we work, who we hire, how we train our therapists, and how we measure progress.

We are the only ABA practice bringing the full depth of Robert J. Bernstein’s cognitive method into a complete ABA framework. That’s not a marketing claim. It’s the result of five years of direct weekly training between our founder and Bernstein himself, and it shows up in every session we run.

Nohum Monosov has been working with children and adolescents with autism, behavioral, and social difficulties since 2010. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification, and a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) credential in New Jersey.

Early in his career, Nohum kept running into the same problem. A lot of the children he worked with were already receiving hours of ABA every week and were still struggling. The therapy was addressing the behavior without ever asking what was driving it. In many cases the strategies seemed to make things worse. Kids would escalate, shut down, or start to feel like something was fundamentally wrong with them.

That frustration led him to the work of Robert J. Bernstein. Whom he trained with directly for over five years they have met almost every week. That training became the foundation of Real Change ABA.

Nohum’s work was the subject of a research study measuring parent-reported outcomes across multiple areas of daily functioning before and after treatment. The results demonstrated statistically significant improvement across every area, as reported by parents observing their children in their natural environments.

He has written articles on autism treatment for the Voice of Lakewood, read by thousands of families.

Robert J. Bernstein is one of the foremost experts in autism and child development. He has spent over four decades developing a cognitive approach to treating autism, working directly with more than a thousand individuals across the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.

Bernstein’s approach is built on a simple but profound idea: that real change comes from within, when a child feels understood and connected. His mantra is “Let the child lead, and when they do, be ready to follow.”

His book, Uniquely Normal: Tapping the Reservoir of Normalcy to Treat Autism, has won six international awards and includes a three-page foreword by Dr. Temple Grandin, the world’s most recognized voice on autism. His work helping a previously nonverbal child learn to speak was documented in the New York Times. He has appeared on Dateline NBC and hosted Educating Your Child, a national call-in radio show dedicated to autism treatment.
