ABA Therapy That Begins With Understanding Your Child

Most approaches to ABA focus on changing how a child acts on the outside. At Real Change ABA, we focus on understanding what’s going on inside. We work with children and adolescents with autism and other developmental challenges using an approach built on connection and understanding, not just managing behavior. When a child feels understood, real change becomes possible.
Our Approach to ABA Therapy
Our approach is grounded in the work of Robert J. Bernstein, one of the leading experts in autism and child development. Bernstein spent over four decades developing a cognitive method built on a simple but profound idea: that to really help a child, you first have to understand how they think and experience the world. Not just how they behave.
That means we don’t just target behaviors. We look for what’s driving them. We find what genuinely interests and engages each child, and we use that as the starting point for real growth.
WHAT REAL PROGRESS ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
- We follow the child’s lead. Whatever genuinely engages your child, chess, woodworking, sports, that’s where we start. Because a child who’s engaged is a child who can grow.
- Your child will grow because they want to. Not because they’ve been conditioned to. We work toward genuine understanding, not compliant responses.
- Progress that shows up in real life. Not just in sessions. You’ll notice it in how your child interacts at home, at school, with siblings, with friends.
- Skills that last. Self-awareness, perspective, self-regulation. The kind of internal foundations that stay with a child through every stage of life.
About Real Change ABA
Real Change ABA was founded by Nohum Monosov, MS ED, BCBA. Nohum spent years working with children with autism and kept running into the same problem. The ABA recommendations felt superficial. They didn’t involve a real understanding of the child, what motivated him, how he thought. In many cases the strategies seemed to make things worse, not better.
That frustration led him to the work of Robert J. Bernstein. He reached out to Bernstein directly, and for over five years they have met almost every week. That training is the foundation of everything we do at Real Change ABA.
What Parents Say
“My son used to beat up his siblings and classmates when he wouldn’t get what he wanted. Before I came to Real Change ABA, I worked with other agencies that worked on eliminating his negative behaviors. We were so intent on changing him and forcing him to comply that we didn’t even recognize the person behind all the negative behaviors. When we came to Real Change ABA they helped me to see that my son is trying to express his frustrations. Now my son can express that he is upset without beating up his siblings. This has been huge for our family.”
